SOA Architecture

Bridge between BSS & OSS

iTMS is a modular platform with a service-oriented architecture (SOA), making it possible for us to offer operators and other telco providers with large legacy systems to use iTMS as a bridge between the OSS and the BSS. As such we can manage the need for real-time interaction between users, partners, the network and OSS/BSS.

Bridging OSS & BSS using iTMS.

Todays Networked Society with increasing mobility, cloud computing, and mobile broadband as the main catalysts are radically changing the competitive market for the telecommunication business.

We see a rapid growth in the number and frequency of the service types being offered by telco providers, targeting a growing number of smaller niches of subscribers. Furthermore, there is a trend to move away from subscriptions towards payment for individual items, for example purchasing a movie with the flexibility to dynamically price the item by the time of day, the quality of service and actual service delivery.

To be successful in this market landscape, it is vital that telco providers can bridge the gap between the business needs, the operational processes, and the OSS/BSS capabilities.

iTMS has always been customer oriented as opposed to many other OSS/BSS systems which are more technology oriented, with the OSS and BSS often being individual components. In iTMS, the OSS and BSS part is seamlessly integrated to a uniform platform supporting the need for fast time-to-market of new services.

iTMS is a modular platform with a service-oriented architecture (SOA), making it possible for us to offer operators and other telco providers with large legacy systems to use iTMS as a bridge between the OSS and the BSS. As such we can manage the need for real-time interaction between users, partners, the network and OSS/BSS.

Traditional OSS/BSS environments are complex and have high operating and maintenance expenses. The use of iTMS will, however, support cost reduction in these expenses.

Central to the idea of taking an agile approach to the market, a telco provider’s degree of flexibility will depend on how well they are able to reuse their OSS/BSS to provide many different services or even support whole new businesses – including business process models and systems.

Resuable logic.

By using iTMS as a bridge and using the iTMS workflow engine to express the business logic, it is possible to reuse the processes in other potential business contexts.

Reusable components.

iTMS has a modular design that supports reusable objects or service components following our service-oriented architecture.

Use of data and information.

The data and information in iTMS are available for many different applications.

For instance, by following the aforementioned concepts, the bundling of service and product components can be handled in a uniformed manner. Rules and restrictions for which service and product combinations are available for different user categories, are similarly supported in a uniformed way and subsequently made known to all applications or systems that need the information.

Using the iTMS to bridge the existing OSS and BSS systems, the network and OSS/BSS systems are synchronized and use the same master data. The bridged OSS/BSS environment handles the product, user, and resource information, from a master data perspective. The architecture covers the full breadth of service enablement and OSS/BSS using the same reference data. One benefit of this is to lower the incremental cost and time to market for new OSS/BSS capabilities, so the telco provider is more able to innovate and experiment.

When updating legacy OSS/BSS systems and creating cost-efficient systems that offer the required level of reusable logic, telco providers need to take a modular approach when designing them, based on standardized components with limitless configurability.

Telco providers should implement an SOA architecture where building blocks, information and business logic can be rearranged and reused as needed. This creates an OSS/BSS environment that evolves in an agile way as the world changes, by dynamically reconfiguring the pieces.

This allows the telco provider to launch new collaborative packages quickly, inexpensively and effectively.
